Helen grew up in South Wales and has been writing since she was little. Often when she should have been practicing the viola, or more recently, doing the ironing.
Having studied at Exeter College of Art and Design, she went on to work in agencies in London, Singapore and the Caribbean.
Helen recently earned an MA in Creative Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University. She now lives in the Cotswolds with her husband and two slightly creased sons.
Our chat with Helen…
Well, my heroine, Milly, is only twelve, so the actor playing her would probably be an unknown. Having said that, there’s one character in Peril En Pointe I wrote with a real-life person in mind. If the movie ever does get made, #wildestdreams, I would insist Topsy is played by Miranda Hart. In fact, I’d ask her to play Topsy’s mum too. I hope she’ll do it for apple crumble and custard.
Milly yearns to dance like her ballerina mum. But a silly mistake during the biggest competition of her life costs Milly her dreams. An unexpected invitation takes Milly to a mysterious ballet school, but Swan House isn’t just a school for ballet dancers. It’s a school for spies. When Milly learns that her mum and new friends are in terrible peril, she must find ‘the grace of a swan and the heart of a lion’ to save them.
